My Paleo Eating Journal

Day 18

Posted on: June 3, 2011

Breakfast: coconut pancakes with mixed berries; decaf black vanilla tea with milk

Lunch: prosciutto, almonds, cashews, raisins

Snack: edamame; more tea

Dinner: McDonald’s hamburger

Thoughts: So first of all I forgot that edamame is a legume and therefore a “no-no”. Ha! Well, I don’t think it’s gonna kill me. The hamburger supposedly contains 32 g of carbs, so don’t think it’s the worst cheat I could indulge in. I had a miserable day of cramping yesterday so took it easy and the burger was an indulgence. Having just started my period I’ve seen a slowdown in the weight loss – I always gain a pound or two at this time of the month. Hopefully by Sunday’s weigh-in it will have gone away and I’ll see how well I’m doing.

The Basics

My way of eating is based on a Paleo/Primal diet and is comprised mainly of saturated animal fat (grass-fed meat, pastured eggs, butter), nuts and seeds (almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts, coconut, pumpkin seeds) and their oils (coconut oil, avocado oil) and lots of vegetables and fruit. I eat virtually no sugar (other than that contained naturally in fruit), potatoes or sweet potatoes, beans or legumes, and no grains or grain products.
