Breakfast: homegrown bacon and farm-fresh eggs fried in bacon fat

Lunch: smoothie (coconut milk, 2% milk, almond butter, baby spinach, frozen berries)

Exercise: 4.5 hours putting up fencing and clearing brush

Dinner: meatballs (mixture of pork and beef, egg, almond flour, salt, onions, garlic, herbs du provence) cooked in coconut oil; with sauce (canned tomatoes and grated carrots simmered in the leftover fat from cooking the meatballs) served over a bed of baby spinach

Dessert: rooibos tea (no milk); wishing I had some dark chocolate!

Thoughts: Years and years ago I went on the Slim-Fast diet. Remember that gem? You drank a “shake” in the morning, one at lunch, and then ate a “healthy” dinner. I lost weight alright, but I was starving all day long. I ate huge portions for dinner to make up for being hungry all day. The shakes didn’t taste very good, were highly processed, and not very filling. As I sit here drinking my delicious smoothie I am thankful for this diet. I’m dropping the pounds but I’m not going hungry. And I get to eat delicious *real* shakes made from *real* food. Life is Good.

Dinner was quite delicious, though next time I think I need more seasoning. Not bad for winging it (have I mentioned I’m not a gifted chef?). I especially enjoyed the spinach, which wilted to perfection when the meatballs and sauce were poured over it.

The Basics

My way of eating is based on a Paleo/Primal diet and is comprised mainly of saturated animal fat (grass-fed meat, pastured eggs, butter), nuts and seeds (almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts, coconut, pumpkin seeds) and their oils (coconut oil, avocado oil) and lots of vegetables and fruit. I eat virtually no sugar (other than that contained naturally in fruit), potatoes or sweet potatoes, beans or legumes, and no grains or grain products.
