Day 9

Breakfast: paleo cereal (see Day 5 for ingredients), honeybush tea with conventional milk

Lunch: home-grown bacon and farm-fresh eggs

Dinner: tossed salad with home-grown baked ham, avocado, bell peppers, sunflower seeds, baby spinach, dried cranberries in a dressing of dijon mustard, avocado oil, salt and red wine vinegar

Dessert: a real coconut! (I ate about a 1/4 of one)

Exercise: three hours of hard labour digging in the garden and putting up a fence!

Thoughts: Mum brought us a whole coconut when she heard it was a staple in the paleo diet. We ate it for dessert and while I didn’t like the juice (needs lots of sugar, however I doubt these are very fresh given they’ve been shipped around the world to get here) I enjoyed munching on the coconut meat.

The Basics

My way of eating is based on a Paleo/Primal diet and is comprised mainly of saturated animal fat (grass-fed meat, pastured eggs, butter), nuts and seeds (almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts, coconut, pumpkin seeds) and their oils (coconut oil, avocado oil) and lots of vegetables and fruit. I eat virtually no sugar (other than that contained naturally in fruit), potatoes or sweet potatoes, beans or legumes, and no grains or grain products.
