Day 7

Weight: 153 lbs

Breakfast: smoothie (coconut milk, conventional milk, baby spinach leaves, almond butter, frozen mixed berries)

Lunch: tossed salad with chunks of baked ham (home-grown)

Dinner: stir fried pork strips with chinese mushrooms, water chestnuts, green onions served over broccoli slaw; red wine

Exercise: 10,000 steps walk with Mum

Thoughts: Today marks the end of my first week, and my scheduled weekly weigh-in. Official weight loss = 2 lbs. Not too shabby. Interesting to note that I was actually down to 151.3 (a total weight loss of 3.5 lbs) before my mother showed up with her rhubarb pie and bottles of red wine. I don’t regret for one moment these indulgences – it will be a long time before I get to do that again, and in a way it is quite satisfying to think that had I not cheated I might even have lost more than 2 lbs this week. It bodes well for the future. So here’s to my first week and a successful start!

The Basics

My way of eating is based on a Paleo/Primal diet and is comprised mainly of saturated animal fat (grass-fed meat, pastured eggs, butter), nuts and seeds (almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts, coconut, pumpkin seeds) and their oils (coconut oil, avocado oil) and lots of vegetables and fruit. I eat virtually no sugar (other than that contained naturally in fruit), potatoes or sweet potatoes, beans or legumes, and no grains or grain products.
